WHAT ABOUT ASTRA ZENECA?

We are currently only administering Astra Zeneca to people over the age of 60 years.

If you are aged 18-59 years of age, you can choose to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine:

  • following an appropriate assessment of suitability by a qualified health professional; and if you provide a written statutory dec. (consent)

The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) recommends the COVID-19 Comirnaty (Pfizer) vaccine as the preferred vaccine for those aged 16 to 59 years

More information on priority population groups is available ATAGI’s advice to Government on priority population groups for COVID-19 vaccination.

How are the vaccines given?
Both vaccines are given via an injection into your upper arm by a health professional who has been trained in giving the COVID-19 vaccines.

Do I need a 2nd Vaccine?
Yes
To get the full benefit of the vaccine you will need two injections:
Pfizer Two doses at least 21 days apart.
Astra Zeneca Two doses 12 weeks apart.

What are Side Effects?

All medicines and vaccines can cause side effects. If you do experience any side effects, most of them are minor and temporary. However, some side effects may need medical attention. Read about potential COVID-19 vaccine side effects.

Extremely rare adverse effects of the vaccine in some people (1 in 250,000). These people developed thrombosis  (blood clots) with thrombocytopenia (low blood platelet count) after receiving the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

How do I know it is safe?

Before a COVID-19 vaccine is used in Australia, it must be approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). The TGA assesses the safety, quality and effectiveness of the vaccines before they are registered for use in Australia.

Where can I have it?

We are currently offering the vaccination at our Burleigh Cove Respiratory Clinic
