Antenatal

** First appointment – 60 minutes

Usually between 6 and 10 weeks, but can be any time.

• Pregnancy Registration – normally 6-10 weeks pregnant, but can be at any gestation
• Confirmation of pregnancy (establish Expected Date of Birth – EDB)
• First Trimester Screening info and referral
• Antenatal Blood screening referrals
• Medical and Obstetric History taken
• Early Pregnancy Care information 
• an explanation of how Private Midwifery Care works
• Obstetric and GCUH Maternity Booking referral
• Commencement of “Your Pregnancy” Care Plan,
• Pregnancy Health Record folder provided >12 weeks

** Subsequent Appointments – 30 minutes

Weeks: 6,10,14,18,22 and 26 

Cost: Bulk Billed

• BP check
• Urinalysis
• 1st Trimester Screening
• Initial or Subsequent Antenatal Bloods
• Foetal Heart rate Auscultation
• Foetal growth check
• Healthy pregnancy education and support

** Maternity Care Plan – 90 minutes

Weeks: between 28 and 30 weeks

Cost: Bulk Billed

This appointment will be scheduled specifically by the Midwife for you.

Postnatal…baby’s here!

New Mum & baby Postnatal care visits with your Midwife begin upon discharge home from the GCUH Birthing suite or Private hospital.

** Mother & Newborn Postnatal Care & Education – 60 minutes

Days: 1,2,3 & 4

Cost: Bulk Billed if in clinic, $20 travel fee if in your home.

• Breastfeeding support
• Infant feeding support

You are able to have as many postnatal visits as required. Your Midwife will make this plan with you at each visit!

** One Week Post Birth Visit – 60 minutes

Cost: Bulk Billed if in clinic, $20 travel fee if in your home.

** Weekly Postnatal Visits – 45 minutes

Week 2, 3, 4 & 5

Cost: Bulk Billed if in clinic, $20 travel fee if in your home.

** 6-Week Postnatal Visit – 45 minutes

Cost: Bulk Billed & in clinic

• Contraception advice & prescription (if not done earlier)
• Ongoing breastfeeding, expressing & storing education if required
• Support plan for mothers returning to work
• Examination of mother & baby to ensure normal postnatal recovery
• Discharge from Midwifery Care Services
• Referral of mum & baby to your GP for ongoing postnatal care
• Discharge Summary to GP
