What is Urinary Incontinence?

There are different types of urinary incontinence. The most common are ‘stress’ incontinence and ‘urge’ incontinence.

Stress incontinence is triggered by pressure on your abdomen and loss of support of the urethra, which is usually a consequence of damage to pelvic support structures (for example when you laugh, cough, sneeze or do something physical like playing sport or lifting things). Women with stress incontinence have an altered connective tissue metabolism, which causes decreased collagen production and may result in insufficient support of the urogenital tract. It is significantly more common in females than in men.

Urge incontinence is best described as an overactive bladder. It is characterised by strong ‘urges’ to go to the toilet and not making it in time.

Urinary incontinence is very common and can effect up to as high as 1 in 2 women (or 40-50 percent). It happens to women of all ages although it becomes more likely the older you are. The impact of urinary incontinence can affect our quality of life. Many women feel embarrassed and isolated, or limit social and work life, and don’t seek medical help.

What can I do for Urinary Incontinence?

This is where the Juliet Laser technology comes in to play! Yippeeeeee!

Juliet Laser incorporates the use of a specialized Er:YAG laser, which releases infrared light pulses. This is the same type of laser used in facial resurfacing procedures and some dentistry applications, where it’s favored more as it’s considered a ‘gentler touch’ rather than traditional devices or machines. The Juliet feminine Laser works to strengthen intimate tissue by promoting the synthesis of new collagen and elastin.

This non-surgical laser provides very similar outcomes and benefits of the traditional vaginoplasty (surgery). It’s a safe, effective and quicker option. Another benefit of a non-surgical approach is that it limits surgery related costs, such as the use of an anesthesiologist and an operating room fee. Patients can usually return to their daily activities immediately after the procedure and sexual activity after 72 hours post treatment.
