Juliet Laser

Juliet Laser Therapy

What does the Juliet laser do?

Juliet Laser is a fast, painless, non-surgical and non-invasive treatment for women experiencing unpleasant symptoms, who are looking for a quick, non-surgical discreet procedure.

It shouldn’t be taboo to discuss ‘intimate health’ any longer!

The Juliet Laser strengthens the vaginal canal, allowing for increased production of natural vaginal moisture and lubrication. It minimizes sexual discomfort, and enhances sexual arousal and orgasm. In majority of cases you are able to return to normal activities directly following treatment (72 hour pause on sex recommended please!).

Taking the laser beam and splitting it into multiple microbeams has provided even more control of the depth of the microablative columns. This results in better efficacy with less downtime, and has become popularised as “vaginal tightening”. Compared with vaginoplasty (surgery), this approach entails non-reconstructive strategies aimed at restoring the muscle tone of the vagina by tightening the supportive structures of the vulvovagina, to reduce the affects of ageing and childbirth.

The Juliet laser benefits women in particular who:

  • are going through menopause
  • recently gave birth
  • underwent cancer therapy
  • wish to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles
  • desire to enhance the quality of their sexual experience

What exactly is Vaginal Atrophy? This is a condition that can occur after the reduction of estrogen by the ovaries (often during menopause). This can cause issues such as irritability or pain during intercourse, vaginal dryness, decreased libido and poor vaginal elasticity and tone.

VRS Vaginal Relaxation Syndrome Is the loss of muscle tone and strength/control. This is a very common side effect after natural childbirth. This can often lead to decreased sensitivity during intercourse and loss of sexual satisfaction by the patient.

Stress Urinary Incontinence –  Can be caused by childbirth or frequent high impact exercise. It’s more common than you may think! The damage to pelvic support can lead to leaking of urine during activity, sneezing, coughing or lifting weights (like small children).

Until recently these common conditions were thought to be an inevitable consequence of ageing or childbirth. Treatments were only undergone in rare cases. This means thousands of women were suffering in silence.

We chatted with Dr Dona to ask her what patients can expect before, during and after treatment.

Before: Dr Dona will talk you through the treatment, the way it is performed and provide you with a thorough information sheet to assist you in being prepared for the procedure.

The day of your treatment: No preparation is needed for the procedure, simply arrive to your appointment with your paper work completed.

Immediately after: Some patients have a slight burning when urinating and a small amount of discharge (this can be slightly pink). If at all concerned, contact Dr Dona.

Results: A recent study conducted on the safety and efficacy of the non-surgical vaginal laser tightening treatment reported that 95% of women and 85% of their partners experienced moderate to strong improvement of vaginal tightness and 95% of patients reported greater sexual satisfaction. Results can continue to improve for up to a month after treatment and have long lasting results.

Do I need to take the day off work?

No – normal activities can be resumed immediately after treatment, as long as you DO NOT have a job that requires strenuous activities. Always ask if you are unsure.

How long does the procedure take?

It takes no more that 10 minutes and requires no pre or post operative care.

Does it hurt?

Most patients report no discomfort other than a warming sensation. There is no need for local anaesthetic.

How many sessions are required?

In most cases, results can be obtained after the first session, with no need for further treatment. A second session may be recommended to maximise the results or, depending on the severity of the symptoms, a further treatment maybe recommended after a few months.

How long until after the treatment can I have sex?

It is recommended that you wait for at least 72 hours after the procedure.

Is it safe?

The Juliet Laser is similar to the lasers that are now being used for facial treatments and dental procedures. It has been used on other parts of the body for many years, so you can be assured of its safety. For a treatment like this to be approved for human use, it has to go through several years of testing and strict approval processes.

Can I have this treatment whilst pregnant?

Is this safe to have if I have the Herpes Simplex Virus?

This treatment may trigger a breakout of the herpes virus. If required, your Dr may recommend a treatment of antiviral.
