5 easy ways to take better care of yourself, today and everyday!
We understand that everyone is time poor and it is a particularly busy time of the year as we see the holiday period coming to a close and we get ready for the back-to-school rush. So let’s get straight into thinking about some easy ways which will help you to take care of yourself.
1. RECOGNISE SIGNS OF STRESS:
Stress is not an indication of weakness. It is a natural reaction that occurs when challenging situations arise or when we have been coping with more than we can manage. Too much stress however, can effect both our physical and mental health. It’s really important to know how to recognise any signs should they arise.
Some signs of stress include:
Excessive drinking
Anger or irritability
Fatigue
Low mood and depression
Feeling overwhelmed
No one is perfect and we all live with many different stresses and demands, but if you or someone you know needs help with managing stress, always seek professional support by contacting:

2. EAT A BALANCED DIET
Everything in moderation! Christmas and New Year celebrations are over! Even though most of us may have indulged over the silly season it’s important to remember that what we eat does impact how we feel.
Maintaining a good balance of fruit, vegetables and protein can help keep you feeling healthy, full of energy and helps promote better sleep patterns.
3. KEEP ACTIVE
Regular exercise can boost your mood by releasing those ‘feel good’ endorphins. To keep stress levels at a minimum this holiday period, make time to keep active. Involving friends and family in physical activity like bike riding or walking along the beach is also a great way to enjoy some exercise with others while soaking up some valuable Vitamin D!
4. KNOW YOUR LIMITS WITH ALCOHOL
Enjoyment and celebrations are a part of life and sometimes means an alcoholic drink or two. Whether it be social get-togethers or family beach picnics on Australia Day, it is important to know your own limits with alcohol.
Being a depressant, alcohol effects behaviour, causes low moods and impact others around you. Drinking in moderation is part of looking after yourself both physically and mentally.
5. CARE FOR EACH OTHER
Caring for each other is an important part of maintaining relationships with friends and family. The New Year is a great opportunity to connect and reconnect with people and to care for those around us.
The holiday season and back-to-school madness can be extremely busy and this can prevent us from catching up with all our loved ones face to face but even sending an email or a text to “check in” with people can be a great way for others to know that you are thinking of them.
